Results of Occupy the Capitol Protest

This past March 5th, mass protests were held in and outside of the California capital building to fight for the funding of public education. A rally was held out in front of the Capitol around mid-day that was attended by about 6-8 thousand people. Once the rally ended, hundreds entered the Capitol building. A General Assembly was held inside and it was decided collectively that protesters would attempt to occupy the building. The General Assembly also decided that their movement would have five demands which include 1) passing the millionaires tax 2) canceling student debt 3) democratizing the UC Board of Regents and the CSU Board of Trustees 4) fully funding all public education 5) amending prop 13.

After the protesters were asked by the California Highway Patrol to leave the building at 6pm, 72 people remained and were arrested.
